The Sooke Arts Council is sponsoring a creative fundraising initiative where members have donated their artistic talents to transform everyday home décor items into one-of-a-kind fine art pieces to raise funds in support of arts programming in our region.
We invite our entire community to visit Sooke Arts Council to view the pieces in person (because photos just don't do them justice) and then vote on their favourite piece/transformation. Prizes will be awarded to the artists who receive the most votes.
#1. Piano Bench by Michaela Rose
I was inspired by an artist named Sophie Tea from London UK. She goes around to charity shops all over the world and buys a piece paints on it and bring it back. So with this piece I wanted to create something based on her abstract style of work as that’s what really draws me to her paintings. I also wanted to create something that represents where we are with the blues being the water, surrounded by and then only inside being colour from the living on a small island.

#3. Mirror by Lorrie Beauchamp
It's not easy painting on a mirror, but this bent little beauty surely deserved a Second Life, and has become a messenger to remind us to BREATHE. My mind is full of galaxies and comets and stars these days; the mirror shows through in places as a pond and lights in the sky. What fun I had transforming this mirror.
