ABOUT THE BUS SHELTER ART PROJECT

The Bus Shelter Art Project has beautified the downtown core and prevented vandalism to the bus shelters for over 15 years. Initiated as a youth driven solution to a perceived youth generated problem, the shelters have showcased art, from a variety of sources, resulting in functional and welcoming shelters.

Sooke Arts Council is excited to continue the Bus Shelter Art Project into the future. This is a unique opportunity to promote visual artists in our community at a highly visible, central location.

The frames in the shelters are designed to accommodate photographs of visual 2D and 3D art pieces. The exhibit does not allow for "marketing posters" so as to preserve the integrity of the exhibit and to discourage "tagging" and graffiti.

Digital photo files will be coordinated through the Sooke Arts Council. Installations will be changed every three months. Ownership of the digital and vinyl hard copy will remain with the artist for their future use.

*ONE frame will be used to display community events every 3 months. This will be designed by Sooke Arts Council and arts groups are encouraged to submit their events for inclusion.
